YOUTH DIRECTOR DETAILS

JOB TITLE: Youth Director
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Youth Work (10-18)
MANAGER: The Rector
TARGET START DATE: early 2009

SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION

• To oversee the evangelism, pastoral care and development of the youth work (ages 10-18) programme within the church
• To ensure that a basic understanding of the Gospel is made available to all young people as they become involved with the youthwork programme.
• To co-ordinate the development, training and pastoral care of our team of volunteer leaders.
• To establish other links with local young people for the purpose of evangelism, discipleship and pastoral care.
• To work alongside COINS Trust and other organisations, specifically Christian and otherwise, as appropriate.
• To liaise with other local youth organisations and statutory bodies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• To be actively involved in the church's youth groups and to take the lead in co-ordinating a programme to cater for the spiritual and social needs of young people.
• To help provide ongoing pastoral care, training and advice for all those involved in youth leadership.
• To facilitate and exercise active pastoral concern for the young people in the church and to be available to them for Christian guidance.
• To represent the needs and views of the church's young people to the PCC and to ensure, where possible and appropriate, that young people are able to do this for themselves.
• To encourage participation of young people in Christian camps, conferences and houseparties.
• To work alongside COINS Trust and other schools workers in linking up with local schools in their programmes.
• To explore creative ways of evangelism amongst the young people of Newbury, to facilitate this by training and equipping Christian young people, and to co-operate with other similar Christian initiatives.
• To foster links, and be the link person, with local organisations and statutory bodies relevant to the church's work with young people.
• To work with others in the Youth Team to produce strategies, objectives and regular reports for the ongoing youth ministry of the parish for the approval of the PCC, and to supply budget proposals for this work.
• To help with effective administration of youth work, to meet regularly with designated supervisors and to participate in regular reviews.
• To work with the PCC Child Protection Officer to review and implement the Church's Child Protection Policy.
• To work strategically with the J-Team leadership to ensure as smooth as possible a transition for young people moving up to Pathfinders.

REQUIREMENTS

FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Qualification in teaching or youthwork is desirable although not mandatory
• Enhanced CRB disclosure will be required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
• Working with young people (in groups and one-to-one) and to encourage, train and inspire the leaders and helpers working with young people.

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience of working with and leading young people in groups and one-to-one (mandatory).
• Liaising, enthusing and organising volunteer workers and fulfilling the duties listed above.
• Good Bible knowledge through a grounding in Biblical studies

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be a committed Christian.
• Must be liked by and like young people!

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

• Salary: equivalent to the stipend of a curate in the Diocese of Oxford, currently £20,301 per annum.
• Hours per week: nominally 40, but the post holder would be expected to be flexible and work additional hours as required
• Holidays per year: 25 days
• Pension contribution: 3%
• Accommodation: accommodation will be provided, either directly or by providing help with an existing mortgage or rental
