TAKE THE TOUR - YOUTH AND CHILDREN

There is a thriving work among young people aged 0-18 at St Nicolas. The key Bible verse that guides what we do is Colossians 1:28: our goal is to bring Christ to the young people of Newbury, with the aim that each one we meet and work with will grow into a mature person in Christ. To do this we seek to create a safe environment in which children and teenagers can have fun, find out what it means to be a Christian in today's society and be encouraged to investigate and develop their own faith.

CRÈCHE

A well-supervised crèche runs during each 11:00 am Sunday service and is for children aged from 0 to 4.

J-TEAM

The J-Team is the St Nicolas Children's Church meeting in term time during the 11:00 am service on all but the first Sunday of the month (which is an all-age Family Service). We cater for children aged 4 to 9. Children start in church and then go out to a time of fun, music, notices and sometimes a short talk, before splitting by age into small groups of 5-15 children for activities. Occasionally there are special events such as praise parties, videos etc.

EARLY BIRDS

This is a group for 0-13 year olds during the 9:15 am service which meets on the same Sundays as J-Team. The children start off in church and are told when to come out to the Upper Hall for their own Bible study and fun. Occasionally there are special events such as praise parties, videos, etc. Our aim is to support parents in the task of encouraging and developing our children's relationship with God.

PATHFINDERS

Our group for 9 to 14 year olds is called Pathfinders. We also meet during the 11:00 am service in term time, except for Family Services. Pathfinders meet at 10.30 am to eat breakfast together, then look at what the Bible has to say to those starting their teenage years at the beginning of the 21st century, have fun, and play games. We meet weekly for Cell Group Bible Study, and occasionally help lead church services. Our aim is to challenge young people about what they believe and present the Bible to them in an enjoyable, exciting and clear way.

TGI FRIDAY (THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY)

TGI is our Friday night youth club for 10-14s, meeting in term time from 7:45 to 9.15 pm. We aim to provide a comfortable, safe place for young people from the church and beyond, to get together, play games (eg, table football, air hockey etc), have fun, chat, and take part in occasional outings. We have a tuck shop and go for a weekend away in the Easter holidays. There are also themed evenings such as the TGI Olympics, film nights, arts and crafts and quizzes. A large number from TGI and Pathfinders also attend Christian camps and houseparties during the summer holidays. Details of these are available.

THE FIRM

The Firm is our Group for 14-18s meeting on Sundays during term time from 8-9:15 pm (after Evening Worship). It is a chance for the older teens to look deeper into what it means to be a Christian today, to look at issues, discuss different views and build strong foundations of faith that will help them with all they will face in the future. We also meet regularly for socials, cinema trips, days out and weekends away. We meet fortnightly for Cell Group, and occasionally help lead church services. Many attend summer camps and from time to time we are able to organise international mission trips. We also seek to develop leadership skills and all members are involved in the planning and leading of sessions.

DROP IN

From 4:00 to 6:15 pm on Fridays in term time we open St Nicolas House as a drop-in for young people of secondary school age. Young people come and chat, play table football etc, eat tuck and, if they like, do homework.
