In a most of our churches we have a large number of people who act as leaders of various groups and organisations. Without them the work of the church would grind to a halt. However, with the possible exception of the ordained clergy and licensed lay workers, leaders are given very little training. How would your church feel if leadership roles were filled by those who were equipped for the roles they are asked to fill?
GROWING LEADERS is a training course aimed at developing leaders for the church. It is based on material developed by the Church Pastoral Aid Society (CPAS). It aims to build leadership skills in people of all ages and backgrounds.
We believe that running the course will enable us to:
• start to equip a group of leaders/potential leaders to meet the challenges we face as churches in a changing social and cultural context.
• move towards a shared understanding of the principles of Christian leadership among our leaders and the congregation more widely.
• encourage and develop new leaders, both young and old, and equip them to take on new responsibilities within our church communities; and
• support and encourage existing and potential leaders who hold leadership roles in other areas of life, so that they can be more effective witnesses there by showing and sharing the distinctives of Christian leadership.
