COMING FOR THE FIRST TIME?

left

We are always very happy to welcome newcomers and visitors to our services, most of which take place on Sundays. We have a variety to choose from - details are set out on our church services page. In addition, St Nicolas is open during the week (usually between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm from Mondays to Fridays) for people to find stillness and take time to pray. If you're coming from a distance, do contact us to check we'll be open.

It can be daunting to come to a church service - especially for the first time. In case you've never been before, please be reassured that you don't have to dress up and that you can take part in what's going on as much or as little as you like. When you arrive, there is always a team of people who will welcome you. If you're not sure where to sit, please ask and you will be directed to a seat.

One of our priorities is to welcome children and young people of all ages to our main morning services. Details of what's on offer are set out on our youth and children's page.

Depending on which service you come to, all the words you need will be in the service books you will be given at the door or else projected on the screen. People often want to know exactly when to sit and when to stand and so the ministers make a point of explaining this and other details as we go along. Of course, if you find standing difficult, please stay seated.

Many of our services include the opportunity for people to come to the front to receive bread and wine in what we call holy communion. Some people opt for a short prayer of blessing by one of the ministers instead, or if you'd prefer just to sit and watch, that's fine. Should you need assistance in coming forward for communion or if you'd prefer to have communion brought to you, please let one of the welcomers know. Regular church members give financially as part of their worship but you won't be asked for any money directly.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to our church and sharing in worship together. If you have any questions in the meantime, please do get in touch.
